The Ottawa Choral Society - Grand Music, Grand Passion, a Grand Tradition
Since its inaugural concert in 1941, the Ottawa Choral Society has evolved into one of Canada's most prominent symphonic choruses. The Society nurtures the choral arts in the National Capital Region, providing a performance platform for talented graduates of the city's youth choirs and experienced adult choristers.
The choir's repertoire ranges from the complex polyphony of the Baroque and Renaissance to the jazz-influenced rhythms and cluster chords of contemporary composers. The Society supports the development of Canadian talent through a commissioning program, choral bursaries, and its New Discoveries Auditions for Young Artists.
We embark on a journey through sounds, styles, and eras as we celebrate Canadian choral music in October, explore the lyricism of the strings and voices in December, marvel at the depth of expression of Fauré and Goodall in March, and thrill to the masterful music of Mozart in June. Join us to be inspired, moved, and transported by the passion and dedication of the OCS singers.

On stage with the National Arts Centre Orchestra for Beethoven's Ninth Symphony on September 20th and 21st.
A hymn to our common humanity in times of war and ethnic strife, Beethoven’s Ode to Joy remains as relevant today as the day it was first performed. The hope expressed in the chorus still resonates: that joy shall bind us together, though customs tear us apart. In an uncertain world, feel the uplifting power of Beethoven’s immortal Ninth Symphony.
